We honor the life and legacy of Donnie Canady, the beloved owner and guiding light of Tanglez Salon. Donnie was not only a gifted stylist but also a mentor, leader, and dear friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him.
Donnie’s journey in the beauty industry began in 1982. As an ambitious young stylist, he quickly found himself traveling across the United States and Canada alongside platform Kenra artist Robert Melton. In those years, he assisted with hosting countless educational classes on coloring, cutting, and advanced techniques—laying the foundation for a remarkable career built on passion, artistry, and dedication to growth.
After establishing himself as an advanced color and cutting specialist, Donnie went on to manage numerous privately owned salons in Wilmington’s Independence Mall. Eventually, he fulfilled his dream of owning a salon of his own—Tanglez. Here, Donnie created more than just a business; he created a home. Tanglez became a place where clients felt cared for, where stylists were inspired to grow, and where laughter and love filled the air every day.
To his clients, Donnie was trusted hands and a kind heart. To his team, he was a leader who guided with encouragement and patience, always sharing his knowledge to help others succeed. To his friends and family, he was a source of joy, loyalty, and genuine love.
Donnie’s impact reached far beyond hairdressing. His chair was a place of connection—where conversations turned into friendships and every person left not only looking better, but feeling better.
Though his passing leaves an irreplaceable void, Donnie’s legacy will forever live on in the artistry, community, and compassion he nurtured at Tanglez Salon. His vision, spirit, and love will continue to inspire us with every client we serve.
Donnie's light will forever shine within the walls of Tanglez and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
